Short answer is: You embrace your chaos, you know that you'll miss it one day, and you want it documented beautifully.

Here's the long answer: I'd also really love that it was because you love my work and want photographs like these. Because if not, that's a giant bummer for me and more searching for you as there are so many photographers to choose from!

And let's say you are at the right place, then I want to tell you a little bit more about why I do what I do and what I don't do.

I do what I do because it terrifies me that I might forget what my baby boy's baby curls look like while he still has them, the chubby thighs, the sheepish grins, the way they drape over me when I am holding and cuddling my babies, their tippy toes trying to snatch something off of our counters, the way they giggle with one another, the proud look on my daughter's face after she has a good round of bicycling, the way they look at my husband and I, and the way we look...pure bliss (ok fine..sometimes horror) on our faces.

As much as I love a good everyone-looking-in-the-camera portrait (and I always dedicate a small portion of time to get you that photo), I know the photographs of all the little details and interactions are the ones I will treasure most as they grow. Those are the ones I know will make my heart skip a beat or make me hold my breath because it will remind me of what our lives were like then. Those are the ones I know they will love most one day even after I am long gone. I want photos that are beyond photos of just faces, I want photos that tell me about the people in them and what their lives were all about.

As hard as raising a family is, it is what I treasure most and what I want to remember most.

I will photograph your family the way I photograph mine..and in a painless way.

No cheesing, no posing, no forcing your children to stand still with their fake smile.

You guys just need to be yourself and have fun and I'll do the rest. Promise.

Here's A little more about me, if you'd like to know!

I love funny people. Jack Handey is my hero.

I love to travel and eat delicious food and can out eat most men.

I am rough around the edges.

I love photographing on film because it forces me to slow down and shoot intentionally and more meaningfully.

I'm obsessed with documenting people doing what they love to do.

It is nice to meet you.

I'm Po Chi (you can call me Po, like Edgar Allan Poe) and I am a Ventura family photographer who serves Ventura County and Santa Barbara County.   My keep-me-level-headed husband, my spunky and awesome daughter, and my snuggly toddler are at the very top of the list of things I love most. Though a CA native, my family and I actually just relocated to Ventura from Washington DC and have been loving sunny blue skies and being able to shout hello to the Pacific Ocean a few times a week.

I am going to be super honest here. I'm not your typical family photographer - I am not the super sweet bubbly type who loves everyone on this dear sweet earth. (By the way, there is nothing wrong with being that way). What I am though is easy going, relaxed, pretty funny, completely imperfect, sometimes a little judgmental if you tell me you don't love desserts, and look tough but totally the type who sobbed at my baby's first haircut.

My parents taught me to value family, good friends, generosity, hard work, integrity, and passion above all other things.  I do and I appreciate all the things created and driven by those values.  I love people who are genuine, kind, and funny and basically try to stay away from the rest because life is too short!

You are not going to want to work with me if you are looking for a perfect person who takes perfectly posed photographs because I am all about real life, the mess, the chaos, the details that make us sentimental, and the "boring." I run around after two messy kids, my hair is usually a mess, and I am wearing unstained sweatpants on a good day. And as much as messes drive me insane on a daily basis, I can't live without it, I embrace it 99% of the time, and I want to remember and document all of it and all about the life that we treasure so much at this moment.

I turn these boring, crazy moments into beautiful photographs for myself and I want to create them for you and your family. And if you also want to preserve this season of craziness that we are all living in, in the way that it truly is,  then I'd really love to meet and work with you!
